The Ladakh administration has extended a pact with ONGC to develop India's first commercial geothermal power plant in the Puga valley. Located at 14,000 feet, the project aims to harness high temperature underground steam to provide a sustainable energy source for the region. ONGC will first establish a 1 MW pilot plant and deepen existing wells to 1,000 meters. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce Ladakh's reliance on conventional fuels and move toward carbon neutrality through a mix of geothermal and solar energy.
