Bhopal has installed India's first algae tree, a solar-powered bioreactor that uses microscopic algae to absorb carbon dioxide and filter dust from urban air. The device is designed for crowded city spaces where planting traditional trees is not feasible. Developers claim one unit can sequester approximately 1.5 tonnes of CO2 per year, equivalent to the capacity of 20 to 25 mature trees. The system uses solar panels to power internal pumps and LED lights to maintain photosynthesis during low-light periods.
