India's First Algae Tree in Bhopal Absorbs CO2 Like 25 Trees: Urban Air Purification Tech

Bhopal has installed India's first Algae Tree at Swami Vivekananda Park, a solar-powered unit that uses microalgae to capture carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Developers say one unit can absorb about 1.5 tonnes of CO2 per year, matching the output of 25 mature trees, and may cut PM2.5 levels by 45 to 55 percent within a 15-meter radius. The system is designed for dense urban areas where planting trees is not practical. It runs on solar power and fits into tight spaces like transit corridors and commercial hubs. While it does not replace the ecological benefits of natural trees, it offers a supplemental tool for cities struggling with air quality and limited green space.
