India's E20 petrol cuts carbon emissions 30% with no engine damage, government tells Parliament
ianslive.inIndia's government told Parliament that E20 petrol (20% ethanol blend) delivers 30% lower carbon emissions than E10, along with better acceleration and cleaner combustion. Extensive studies by ARAI, SIAM, and automakers found no evidence of ethanol-induced corrosion or engine wear in millions of legacy vehicles. A leading automaker serviced 2.84 crore vehicles in FY2025-26, including 1.5 crore not originally E20-certified, with no reported damage. Another OEM tracked 1.4 crore E20-operated vehicles over an extended period with similar results. The government says higher ethanol blends produce near-zero particulate matter, improving urban air quality.
