India's cities need $2.4 trillion by 2050 for climate resilience, but have raised only $476 million so far
cnbctv18.comA new FICCI-EY report estimates that Indian cities need $2.4 trillion in investment by 2050 to become climate-resilient and low-carbon. So far, only 20 municipal corporations have raised capital through markets, totaling just $476 million. That is less than 0.02% of what is needed. The report calls for cities to become more investment-ready, with better credit ratings and project pipelines. Urban areas generate over 60% of India's GDP but face huge infrastructure gaps for flood protection, clean energy, and efficient transport. Without faster municipal bond issuance and private capital, the funding gap will only widen.
