India's Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu chaired a high-level meeting to review the country's preparedness for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) adoption and compliance with CORSIA, the ICAO carbon reduction scheme for international aviation. The meeting covered SAF production, certification, supply chains, and a national SAF Registry with end-to-end traceability. Officials discussed blending mandates, with a target of 1% CORSIA blending by 2027, and a draft SAF policy is in final stages. The minister emphasized moving from feasibility studies to concrete production timelines. Stakeholders from multiple ministries, oil marketing companies, airlines, and airport operators participated. India aims to develop a cost-effective carbon offset mechanism and minimize passenger burden. The government is also working on a CORSIA-compliant carbon market framework and has directed all parties to expedite action points before the mandatory CORSIA phase begins January 1, 2027.
