India reviews SAF and CORSIA preparedness for 2027 blending mandate

India's Civil Aviation Ministry held a high-level meeting to review the country's readiness for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) adoption and compliance with CORSIA, the global carbon reduction scheme for international aviation. The goal is to meet a 1% SAF blending requirement by 2027 in a cost-effective manner. The meeting covered SAF production projects, supply chain development, and the creation of a national SAF Registry for end-to-end traceability. Officials also discussed a draft SAF policy and a CORSIA-compliant carbon market framework. The minister emphasized that the transition should minimize the burden on passengers and airlines. India has already switched 104 airports to 100% green energy. The government is now moving from feasibility studies to concrete production timelines, aiming to position the country as a global leader in sustainable aviation.
