India's Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu reviewed the country's preparedness for adopting Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and implementing the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). The high-level meeting in New Delhi covered the roadmap for SAF production, blending, carbon accounting, and supply chain development. The mandatory phase of CORSIA starts January 1, 2027, and India is working to meet its obligations under ICAO's framework. The meeting reviewed SAF production projects by Oil Marketing Companies, certification processes, and a proposed national SAF Registry with end-to-end traceability. A robust accounting, monitoring, and reporting framework aligned with ICAO requirements is being developed. The draft Sustainable Aviation Fuel Policy is in its final stages and being finalized through stakeholder consultations. The government aims to build a globally competitive SAF ecosystem that supports aviation growth while contributing to global decarbonization efforts.
