India presents carbon credit trading scheme at WTO Trade and Environment Week 2026 in Geneva
ddnews.gov.inIndia showcased its Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) at the WTO Trade and Environment Week in Geneva on World Environment Day. Officials from the Ministry of Environment, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, and Ministry of Power presented the national framework for the Indian Carbon Market, which aims to establish an electronic carbon credit trading platform and use market-based instruments to incentivize greenhouse gas emission reductions. India reported that non-fossil fuel installed electricity generation capacity reached 53.21% as of March 2026, exceeding its 50% target by 2030 nearly five years early. Emissions intensity of GDP fell by 37.38% between 2005 and 2022, surpassing the NDC target of 33-35% reduction ahead of schedule. The session also covered standards for green hydrogen classification under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
