India Launches First Hydrogen Train on Jind-Sonipat Route: A Step Toward Zero-Emission Rail

India has launched its first hydrogen-powered train on the Jind-Sonipat route, using onboard fuel cells to generate electricity with only water vapor as a byproduct. This allows rail operations on non-electrified tracks without costly overhead wires, offering a cleaner alternative to diesel for regional routes. The project is part of a broader push to cut carbon emissions and reduce fossil fuel imports in the rail sector. The government also announced infrastructure investments worth about 14,700 crore rupees in Haryana, including expressway segments and an elevated railway track.
