India gets 2 out of 32 in healthy NDC scorecard as climate plans miss health and air quality
deccanherald.comIndia scored 2 out of 32 in the Global Climate and Health Alliance's Healthy NDC Scorecard, tied with Japan and New Zealand at the bottom. The assessment looks at how well national climate plans integrate health and air quality. The report says India's emissions targets are not aligned with the Paris Agreement and its NDCs do not mention the high burden of air pollution mortality, even though black carbon and PM2.5 are major health threats. Colombia topped the scorecard with 29 points, and 19 of the top 20 scores went to low and middle income countries. The gap is not about wealth. It is about whether governments recognize the health co-benefits of cutting fossil fuel combustion. India's approved NDCs for 2031-2035 include a 47% emissions intensity cut from 2005 levels, 60% non-fossil power capacity, and a large forest sink target, but health and air quality are largely absent from the plan.
