IMARC Group's new report sizes India's carbon credit market at USD 33.69 billion in 2025 and projects it will reach USD 405.47 billion by 2034, a CAGR of 31.84%. The growth story centers on the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme, which has set emission intensity targets for around 490 entities across seven energy-intensive sectors. With 282 industrial facilities now holding legally binding targets and trading expected to begin in mid-2026, India is moving from the older PAT scheme into a broader compliance market that could cover over 700 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent at full rollout. Voluntary credits still lead the market at 58.04% of the type segment, supported by Verra and Gold Standard projects across renewables, agroforestry, biochar, and dairy manure management. The report also tracks regional concentration, with North India at 31% of the market, followed by South India at 27.4%. For buyers and project developers, the key details are the eight approved voluntary offset methodologies, the Article 6.4 international authorization pipeline, and the CBAM reporting requirements that will push Indian exporters to measure product-level carbon intensity from 2026.
