The Indian Union Cabinet is reviewing a proposed Rs 20,000 crore framework to support Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) over five years. The plan follows a Union Budget 2026-27 announcement and is designed to help India meet its net-zero 2070 target while supporting industrial growth. A Ministry of Power joint secretary said policy support, strong institutions, and investment are needed to scale CCUS technologies. The proposal was discussed at a seminar organized by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Government officials, industry leaders, and researchers examined how CCUS can aid decarbonization in hard-to-abate sectors. The framework aims to create an enabling ecosystem for carbon management solutions. The Cabinet has not yet approved the plan, but the consultation points to policy clarity and funding as key next steps.
