The Indian government is launching a Rs 37,500 crore incentive scheme to boost coal and lignite gasification. By converting coal into syngas, the initiative aims to produce domestic methanol, ammonia, and urea, reducing reliance on imported hydrocarbons and LNG. This strategic shift seeks to reach 100 million tonnes of gasification capacity by 2030. The program increases financial support for individual projects to up to Rs 3,000 crore to strengthen energy security against global supply chain disruptions.
