India and the European Union are deepening talks on carbon markets and CBAM. In a New Delhi meeting, Power Ministry Secretary Pankaj Agarwal and European Commission DG for Taxation and Customs Union Gerassimos Thomas discussed how India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme could align with EU rules on carbon pricing and monitoring, reporting and verification. India has notified emission intensity reduction targets for 490 industrial units as part of its domestic carbon market. The two sides agreed to keep working on recognition of carbon pricing mechanisms, MRV systems and capacity building. The outcome is procedural, but it signals that CBAM technical discussions with India are moving forward.
