India is implementing new policy frameworks to encourage the use of flex-fuel vehicles, starting with mass-market motorcycles capable of running on ethanol blends from E20 to E85. The government aims to reduce reliance on imported crude oil and lower carbon emissions by leveraging the country's large two-wheeler ecosystem. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted that ethanol blending has already significantly reduced CO2 emissions and foreign exchange spending. New incentives and cheaper fuel pricing at designated pumps are expected to make flex-fuel ownership more affordable for consumers while supporting the rural economy.
