The International Maritime Organization kept its Net-Zero Framework intact during the MEPC 84 negotiations in London. Despite pushback from the United States, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, a coalition including the EU and UK successfully preserved the proposed carbon pricing mechanism. Negotiations will continue through intersessional talks in September and November, with a final decision expected in December. The outcome will determine if the shipping industry adopts its first global carbon pricing system to fund the transition to alternative fuels.
