The International Maritime Organization's Net Zero Framework has survived a series of challenges during the MEPC 84 negotiations in London. Despite efforts by some member states to remove carbon pricing, a majority of delegations reaffirmed the framework as the basis for decarbonizing global shipping. While the framework remains intact, the path to full adoption is still uncertain. Upcoming intersessional meetings in September and November will focus on refining the carbon pricing mechanism and building broader consensus among member states to ensure the policy is effective and equitable.
