The International Labour Organization, the Nigerian government, and France have launched the second phase of the Social Dimension of Ecological Transition Project. The initiative aims to turn Nigeria's climate pledges into green jobs, worker protections, and inclusive growth. Running until 2029, it builds on a first phase that integrated just transition principles into Nigeria's updated Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement. The project focuses on implementation after years of policy work. It targets green employment, skills training, enterprise development, and social protection measures. Nigeria, as Africa's largest economy and a major oil producer, faces the challenge of cutting emissions while protecting workers in fossil fuel industries. The ILO says the goal is to make climate action a driver of decent work rather than economic dislocation.
