Researchers from IIT Madras and IISc Bengaluru have synthesized a novel carbon-free version of ferrocene. By replacing carbon rings with boron and using osmium as the central metal, the team created a structure that is more stable than traditional ferrocene. This discovery, published in Science, opens new possibilities for creating efficient catalysts in pharmaceutical production and developing advanced boron-based materials like borophenes.
