IIT-M deep-tech fund raises Rs 450 crore for carbon capture and battery startups
newindianexpress.comThe IIT Madras Unicorn Frontier Fund-I has closed its first funding round at Rs 450 crore, with a target corpus of Rs 1,000 crore. The fund backs early-stage deep-tech startups, including Chennai-based space firm Hathor, Delhi-based quantum-tech company Quanstra, battery maker Triolt Energy, and Carbelim, which develops microalgae-based carbon capture and air purification technology. Most investments will range from Rs 15 crore to Rs 25 crore, focused on companies at technology readiness levels 3 and 4. The fund is backed by IIT-M alumni and family offices, with institutional investors expected before the final close. It aims to build a portfolio of about 25 startups that can compete globally and reduce India's reliance on imported technology.
