IIT Guwahati has partnered with Kaashyap Cleantech Innovations to commercialize a biological process that converts methane and carbon dioxide into bio-methanol. Unlike traditional chemical methods, this catalyst-free approach operates under mild conditions to create a liquid fuel and industrial solvent. Tests show that diesel-methanol blends can reduce carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions by up to 87 percent compared to pure diesel. The project aims to lower greenhouse gas levels while providing a scalable, green alternative to fossil fuels.
