IIT Bombay has opened India's first integrated Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) field laboratory. The facility focuses on capturing CO2 from industrial sources and the atmosphere, converting it into industrial salts, and storing the remainder in basalt rock formations. This pilot project, supported by the Bharat Innovates 2026 initiative, aims to develop indigenous climate technologies. The research includes a scientific drilling initiative to test the long-term storage potential of the Deccan Traps volcanic formations.
