IHG's first carbon-neutral hotel Voco Zeal Exeter Science Park names Kigh Johnson executive chef
thecaterer.comKigh Johnson has been appointed executive chef at Isca Restaurant & Bar inside Voco Zeal Exeter Science Park, the hotel IHG Hotels & Resorts calls its first carbon-neutral property. Johnson arrives from Michelin-starred and AA rosette kitchens and will lead the team at the 142-bedroom hotel near Exeter. Valor Hospitality operates the site, which reached BREEAM Outstanding at design stage. His brief includes keeping the restaurant focused on responsibly sourced Devon produce, seasonality and cutting waste. The appointment is part of a wider push by IHG and Zeal Hotels to show that a mainstream hotel brand can run a lower-carbon operation. The real test will be whether the carbon-neutral label holds up in day to day energy use, supply chain choices and guest behaviour, not just in design ratings.
