Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has partnered with WAE Limited to install glass bottling plants and water purification systems across select hotel properties. The systems treat water on-site to BIS 10500 standards and bottle it in reusable glass containers, replacing single-use plastic water bottles. WAE says the approach cuts packaging waste and reduces the carbon footprint from transporting bottled water. The partnership is part of IHCL's broader sustainability goals in hospitality. WAE holds an EcoVadis rating covering environment, ethics, and sustainable procurement. The company positions its water infrastructure as a way for hotels to embed lower-carbon operations without sacrificing guest experience. For the carbon credit and climate finance audience, this is a concrete example of operational decarbonization in a hard-to-abate sector. The shift from external bottled water to on-site circular systems reduces Scope 3 emissions and offers a replicable model for other hotel chains looking to cut indirect carbon costs.
