IHCL Partners WAE for Carbon-Neutral Water Solutions in Hospitality | On-Site Purification and Glass Bottling

IHCL (Indian Hotels Company Limited) has partnered with WAE Limited to deploy on-site water purification and reusable glass bottling systems across select hospitality properties. The goal is to cut out single-use plastic bottles, reduce transport emissions from external water sourcing, and give hotels direct control over water quality and carbon footprint. WAE's systems treat water to BIS 10500 standards and bottle it in reusable glass on site, aiming for a circular water model that lowers waste and emissions. WAE is EcoVadis-rated for sustainability, covering environmental, ethical, and procurement criteria. The partnership targets a shift from conventional packaged water to an in-house, lower-carbon water service that aligns with IHCL's broader responsible operations commitments. Hospitality is a heavy user of bottled water, so this kind of on-site infrastructure could meaningfully cut Scope 3 emissions if scaled across the chain. For carbon markets and climate watchers, this is a practical example of embodied carbon reduction through operational design rather than offsets. The key question is how many properties will adopt it and what the measured emissions reduction per liter actually is. If WAE publishes those numbers, it would be a useful benchmark for similar retrofits in hotels and commercial buildings.
