iGii raises 26.5 million euros for carbon nanomaterial Gii, targeting sensors and printed battery electrodes
eu-startups.comStirling-based iGii has raised 26.49 million euros (22.7 million pounds) to scale production of Gii, its porous carbon nanomaterial. The round includes 13.65 million euros from Scottish National Investment Bank, with PXN Ventures and Archangels also taking part, plus 12.84 million euros from Scottish Enterprise. iGii says Gii is grown at room temperature and can be used in applications like multi-analyte sensing, microheaters, and flexible printed battery electrodes. iGii positions Gii as an alternative to constrained materials such as platinum and gold, and says the funding will be used to turn existing manufacturer relationships into long-term supply agreements. The company expects headcount to reach nearly 70 by the end of the year. The next test is whether the material moves from pilot runs to volume production in at least one of those markets.
