The International Carbon Registry (iCR) now requires all projects on its platform to get independent ratings from MSCI and financial risk assessments from carbon insurance specialist Kita. This makes iCR the first registry to mandate third party ratings and risk analysis for every project, not just as an optional add on. The goal is to give buyers consistent information on project quality, additionality, permanence, and delivery risk. Under the new framework, MSCI provides standardized carbon project ratings, while Kita evaluates financial grade risks and offers optional insurance for eligible projects. The verifier, ratings provider, and risk assessor all operate independently from the registry. This move reflects a broader push in voluntary carbon markets toward transparency and stronger buyer confidence in credit integrity.
