The International Carbon Registry (iCR) has announced a first for the carbon market: every project registered on its platform will now carry an independent MSCI Carbon Project Rating and a Kita risk assessment. Optional insurance eligibility is also included. The move is designed to embed due diligence directly into the registration process rather than leaving it to buyers. By making third-party ratings and financial-grade risk analysis mandatory, iCR aims to reduce the inconsistency and trust issues that have plagued carbon credit markets. The ratings and assessments will be publicly available on CarbonRegistry.com, giving buyers a standardized view of project quality and risk before they purchase credits.
