ICAO joins CORSIA Supporting Alliance as eligible carbon credit supply reaches 72 million units
traveldailynews.comICAO has joined IATA's CORSIA Supporting Alliance, a group of more than 80 aviation and carbon market stakeholders working to expand the supply of eligible emissions units ahead of the first compliance deadline in 2027. The alliance focuses on removing regulatory and operational barriers around host country authorizations, including accounting arrangements under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement. As of August 2026, IATA reports 42 letters of authorization covering roughly 72 million eligible emissions units. That is up from 40 million at the start of the year, but still far below the 200 to 250 million units IATA estimates airlines will need for the first CORSIA compliance cycle. With the first mandatory cancellation deadline set for the end of 2027, the gap between authorized supply and expected demand remains the core challenge.
