ICAO Joins Alliance to Boost CORSIA Eligible Emissions Unit Supply for Aviation Carbon Market
breakingtravelnews.comICAO has joined the Supporting Alliance for CORSIA EEU Supply, a group of over 80 stakeholders working to remove bottlenecks in the availability of eligible emissions units for international aviation. The alliance focuses on practical support for authorizing units under CORSIA while avoiding double counting, and helps countries navigate the link between their Paris Agreement climate pledges and CORSIA requirements. As of August 2026, 42 CORSIA-compatible Letters of Authorization covered 72 million eligible emissions units, up from 40 million at the start of the year. However, the estimated need for the first compliance cycle is between 200 and 250 million units, leaving a substantial supply gap ahead of the 2027 deadline. The move signals stronger coordination between ICAO, IATA, governments, and carbon market participants to accelerate EEU issuance.
