IATA announced a new alliance at its 82nd AGM in Rio de Janeiro to boost the supply of eligible emission reduction units under the CORSIA mechanism. The goal is to reach 225-250 million credits by spring 2027. The alliance will help resolve bottlenecks between national climate commitments under the Paris Agreement and the procedures needed to transfer credits into CORSIA without double counting. IATA estimates the first phase could attract $4-5 billion in climate finance, rising to $100 billion by 2035 depending on carbon prices. The initiative aims to simplify country access to carbon markets and related financial resources. IATA invites carbon market participants and specialized organizations to join the effort.
