IATA has launched the Supporting Alliance for CORSIA EEU Supply, a coalition of over 32 entities including major airlines, to increase the availability of CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units (EEUs) to 225-250 million by spring 2027. The alliance aims to resolve bottlenecks in transferring carbon credits between national systems under the Paris Agreement and CORSIA, particularly around double-counting and authorization of domestic units. The initiative is expected to generate $4-5 billion in climate finance in its first phase and potentially $100 billion by 2035. It provides pro bono support to countries seeking to authorize domestic emissions units for CORSIA use, ahead of the first compliance deadline in December 2027. The alliance is open to all organizations and governments willing to contribute expertise and resources.
