The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has formed a new alliance called the Supporting Alliance for CORSIA EEU Supply. The goal is to increase the availability of CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units (EEUs) to between 225 and 250 million by spring 2027. The alliance brings together over 32 entities including major airlines like Air France-KLM, Lufthansa Group, Singapore Airlines, and Qatar Airways. The alliance aims to fix bottlenecks that prevent carbon credits from entering the CORSIA market. A key issue is managing the overlap between countries' Paris Agreement commitments and the authorization of credits for aviation. The group will offer pro bono expert support to help countries prepare for the first CORSIA compliance deadline in December 2027. IATA estimates CORSIA could generate $4-5 billion in climate finance in its first phase and up to $100 billion by 2035.
