IATA expands global alliance to boost supply of CORSIA carbon credits for airline decarbonization
en.travel2latam.comIATA has expanded its Supporting Alliance for CORSIA Eligible Emissions Unit Supply to 50 participants, adding governments from Guyana, Madagascar, the UK, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. New partners include IETA, Sylvera, and Airbus, aiming to increase the availability of high-quality carbon credits for international aviation under the CORSIA scheme. Demand for CORSIA-compliant credits could reach 225 to 250 million units by spring 2027. The alliance coordinates resources to accelerate credit generation, align national climate commitments with CORSIA rules, and improve access to carbon markets and financing. Major airlines like Air France-KLM, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, and Singapore Airlines are also involved. The initiative focuses on ensuring sufficient supply of eligible units to meet aviation's offsetting needs, while strengthening market integrity and transparency. It represents a concrete step to connect carbon credit supply with regulatory demand from the aviation sector.
