IATA CORSIA Alliance Adds Governments and Partners to Boost Carbon Credit Supply for Aviation
webwire.comThe International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that 50 entities have joined its Supporting Alliance for CORSIA Eligible Emissions Unit (EEU) Supply. New signatories include governments of Guyana, Madagascar, the United Kingdom, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, plus organizations like IETA, Sylvera, and Airbus. The Alliance aims to scale high-quality carbon credits for the aviation industry's Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA). The group targets supplying 225-250 million CORSIA EEUs by spring 2027. It plans to pool resources, help countries manage the link between their national climate pledges and carbon credit authorization, and improve access to carbon finance. This collaboration brings together airlines, carbon market stakeholders, and data partners to address supply constraints. This matters because CORSIA is now in force, creating compliance demand for credits. The Alliance's focus on practical support for host countries could unlock more supply from Article 6 mechanisms. However, success depends on whether these efforts translate into real credit issuance at the needed speed and scale.
