IATA and ICAO announced enhanced cooperation at ICAO Aviation Climate Week to improve transparency and integrity in tracking sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). The partnership aims to accelerate SAF deployment and support net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 through robust data collection and monitoring systems. Both organizations will explore how SAF registries can support ICAO's Long-Term Aspirational Goal methodology and fuel accounting for international aviation. IATA Director General Willie Walsh emphasized that credible tracking is essential to measure emissions reductions from SAF. ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar noted the need for unprecedented transparency to scale up cleaner aviation energies. The collaboration sets an example for states to work with industry on SAF data accumulation and consistent climate investment recognition under ICAO frameworks.
