IATA and ICAO have introduced a joint initiative to standardize the tracking and reporting of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). The framework utilizes the CADO SAF Registry and ICAO LTAG methodology to verify emissions reductions and ensure airlines meet international climate mandates. Currently, SAF accounts for less than 1% of global jet fuel consumption. To achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, industry analysts estimate that SAF must scale to 65% of total fuel use, offering up to an 80% reduction in lifecycle carbon footprints.
