Hyundai-POSCO Louisiana Steel is constructing a new integrated steel mill in the USA focused on low-emission automotive steel. The facility will utilize electric arc furnaces and a direct reduction plant to reduce the carbon footprint of high-value steel production for the North American market. The plant features hydrogen-ready technology and carbon capture capabilities. By combining direct reduced iron (DRI) and scrap charging, the facility aims to meet strict decarbonization targets while maintaining the quality standards required for automotive applications.
