Hyundai Motor Group is testing vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology on Jeju Island, using electric vehicles as mobile energy storage systems. The pilot involves 40 users of the Ioniq 9 and EV9 to help balance the grid by storing excess wind and solar power during the day and releasing it at night. This initiative aims to reduce renewable energy curtailment and move toward a decentralized energy model. By integrating EV batteries into the local power infrastructure, Hyundai seeks to support Jeju's 2035 carbon-neutral goal through better local energy consumption.
