157 trillion won over three years is a lot of supplier spend. The interesting part is they are now pushing ESG assessments down to tier 2 and 3 suppliers. That is where real Scope 3 tracking gets hard.

Scope 3 is the nightmare for auto supply chains. If Hyundai Mobis is actually doing third party verification for sub suppliers that is ahead of most OEMs. Would be curious to see what the carbon reduction equipment support looks like in practice.

Renewable energy share at 29% is decent but 85% of energy use is electricity. Going from 29% to 65% by 2030 means they need to roughly double renewable procurement in four years. That requires actual PPAs or on site generation not just RECs.

Good point. SBTi approved their 46% facility emissions cut by 2030. That is a real target. But the 100% renewable by 2040 is less ambitious than some peers. Still, for a Korean auto parts maker it is notable they joined RE100 at all.

The shareholder return piece is also relevant. 32.8% total shareholder return exceeding target. That matters because if companies cannot balance ESG spend with returns the sustainability programs get cut first in downturns. EV demand slowing makes that tension real.

Exactly. The R&D spend going up 18% year over year to 1.88 trillion won is a bet that electrification and autonomous driving pay off. If EV demand stays soft that R&D gets harder to justify. The supplier payments are the real story here though. 157 trillion won is serious leverage for forcing supply chain decarbonization.
