Hyundai Motor is sending 15 Elec City electric buses to Marrakesh through a KOICA development assistance project. The buses will run on urban routes near major tourist areas, with fast chargers and local maintenance training included. The first two buses have been handed over in South Korea, and the remaining vehicles are scheduled to arrive before a local ceremony in the first quarter of 2027. Morocco plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 45.5% from projected levels by 2030 and reach carbon neutrality by 2050. This pilot is small, but it tests whether Korean electric bus technology can operate in a North African city. The project also includes technical cooperation, which is useful for building local maintenance capacity beyond the initial donation.
