HYPREP has reaffirmed its commitment to the Ogoni cleanup in the Niger Delta, with a focus on mangrove restoration, soil and groundwater remediation, and carbon credit generation. The project coordinator stated that restored mangroves are sequestering carbon and that these carbon assets are being positioned to secure long-term funding for local communities. The cleanup includes shoreline remediation, provision of potable water, health interventions, and the Ogoni Power Project. Thousands of local residents are employed as mangrove planters and shoreline monitors. The Ogoni wetlands have also been designated a Ramsar Site, highlighting their international ecological importance.
