Ottawa-based Hyperion Global Energy is working with MaRS and cement producer Amrize to scale its Tandem Carbon Recycling system. The technology captures flue gas from cement manufacturing and converts CO2 into calcium carbonate, a mineral used in products like toothpaste, paint, and cement. CEO Heather Ward says the global market for low-carbon materials from CO2 is over $44 billion. Hyperion has been running a pilot at Amrize's plant in Bath, Ontario, and aims to make the system commercially viable within 18 months. The company hopes Amrize will become an anchor customer. If successful, this could offer a practical route for hard-to-abate industrial sectors to turn emissions into revenue rather than a liability.
