HS Hyosung Advanced Materials is leading a 13 million dollar Series B funding round for Trillium Renewable Chemicals. The investment supports the demonstration phase of a new process that creates acrylonitrile from waste glycerol, a byproduct of biodiesel production. This technology aims to replace traditional petrochemical inputs used in the production of synthetic rubbers, high performance polymers, and carbon fiber. The demonstration plant is expected to begin commissioning in early 2026 with product shipments following in the second half of the year.

The tech sounds fine, but the jump from a demo plant to commercial scale is where most of these projects fail. I want to see the actual throughput numbers before calling this a win.

True, but the incentive structure for bio based precursors is shifting. If they can prove the carbon intensity is significantly lower than the fossil route, the subsidies make the commercial scale much more viable.
