HyNet Douglas CCS platform installed in Liverpool Bay: world's first purpose-built offshore carbon capture structure
wirralglobe.co.ukThe HyNet project reached a major construction milestone with the installation of the Douglas CCS platform in Liverpool Bay. It is described as the world's first purpose-built offshore carbon capture and storage platform. The platform will act as the offshore hub for CO2 captured from industrial sites in North West England and North Wales, moving it through a 26km underground pipeline from Stanlow to Point of Ayr and then into repurposed offshore pipelines for storage in depleted gas reservoirs. Eni, which leads the project, says the platform was delivered in under 18 months from contract award. The wider Liverpool Bay CCS construction programme is around 50 per cent complete, with about 60 per cent of project spend going through UK supply chains. That supports more than 2,000 construction jobs and an estimated 200 to 300 long-term roles over 25 years of operation.
