HyNet CCS platform installed in Liverpool Bay: first purpose-built offshore carbon storage hub
leaderlive.co.ukHyNet's Douglas CCS platform is now installed in Liverpool Bay, the first purpose-built offshore carbon capture and storage platform of its kind. It will receive CO2 captured from industrial sites across North West England and North Wales, with a 26km underground pipeline moving CO2 from Stanlow to the Point of Ayr gas terminal before it flows through repurposed offshore lines into depleted gas reservoirs. The project, led by Eni, is roughly half complete and the platform was delivered in under 18 months. Around 60% of project spend goes through UK supply chains, supporting 2,000 construction jobs and 200-300 long-term roles. The HyNet cluster is one of the main test cases for UK industrial CCS, so its commissioning timeline matters beyond Liverpool Bay.
