The transition to a hydrogen economy and the scaling of carbon capture technology require a massive increase in skilled engineering labor. Current estimates suggest that reaching 10 gigawatts of hydrogen capacity would need nearly 60,000 direct and indirect workers, far exceeding current staffing levels. Industry leaders emphasize that a lack of clear demand signals from employers is slowing the development of necessary training programs. Bridging this gap requires better coordination between government, educational institutions, and private companies to map critical occupations and deploy sector experts.
