Hydro signs 10 year PPA with Eviny for renewable power to cut aluminium carbon footprint
alcircle.comHydro Energy signed a 10 year power purchase agreement with Eviny Fornybar to secure 0.5 TWh of renewable electricity per year from 2031 to 2040 for its Norwegian aluminium operations. The deal covers 5 TWh total and will supply the NO5 price area in Norway. Hydro says its Norwegian aluminium made with renewable power has a carbon footprint about 75 percent lower than the global average. The company plans to reach net zero by 2050 and is pursuing more long term PPAs, new renewable projects, and upgrades to existing assets. This PPA matters because aluminium smelting is electricity intensive. A guaranteed renewable supply for a decade helps Hydro lock in lower carbon output and gives Eviny the revenue certainty to invest in new generation. For European buyers looking to cut scope 3 emissions, this kind of contract is a concrete step. The deal runs from 2031 to 2040 and covers 0.5 TWh per year in Norway's NO5 price zone.
