Hydro Extrusions Americas is ramping up availability of its Hydro CIRCAL low-carbon aluminum extrusions in the US market. The product line uses at least 75 percent post-consumer scrap, achieving a carbon footprint of about 2.3 kg CO2-equivalent per kg of aluminum, compared to the global primary average of 16-17 kg. This makes CIRCAL one of the lowest-carbon extruded aluminum options currently available, with third-party verified environmental product declarations that support LEED and BREEAM certification for building projects. The expanded US availability targets architectural system makers, façade and window manufacturers, and transportation and industrial OEMs that need verifiable CO2 reductions without changing alloy performance. Because CIRCAL billets meet conventional 6000-series alloy specifications, engineers can often switch feedstock without redesigning dies or processes. This drop-in compatibility, combined with audited CO2 data, helps buyers meet embodied carbon requirements in public tenders and corporate sustainability reports. Hydro CIRCAL is part of Norsk Hydro's strategy to differentiate from commodity smelters through premium low-carbon products. The company also offers the REDUXA primary-aluminum line with a 4 kg CO2-equivalent maximum footprint. As US and European regulators tighten disclosure rules on embodied carbon, demand for certified low-CO2 materials like CIRCAL is expected to grow, supporting Hydro's margins and positioning in the sustainable materials market.
